((This is a very short story involving my main character taking an evening off in the Crater Bar, and my alts making their appearances. It won't be any more posts than this 1, as it's just a short writing exercise (kinda) for me to get used to my characters. Well, I hope you enjoy it. Honestly, I got tired towards the end and it probably shows. I apologise in advance!))

The sunlight reflected off the surface of the alcoholic spirit that lay still in the glass upon the table. The Crater bar was packed with mercenaries, Ark hunters and other similar types. Mei placed her finger into the drink, stirring the ice as she watched a pair of Ark hunters speaking with Varus Soleptor, the stout gulanite mining baron who happened to be the richest being in the area. Mei was new to the Bay Area, but she liked to know who to deal with, as well as how to best go about it. She was a small human herself, of Chinese descent with well proportioned features, her petite frame hidden behind bi-coloured baggy trousers, light on the front and a dark grey on the back, and a loose, tan coloured long coat, paired with a pair of buckled leather boots that came half way up her calf. Her chestnut eyes were hidden behind a rose-tinted pair of aviators and her straight, jet-black hair hung loose over her shoulders, resting over her shoulder blades. She removed her finger from the glass and placed it in her mouth, the faint taste of vodka on her tongue as the pair of Ark hunters walked away from Varus, clearly annoyed. Mei chuckled to herself as she removed her finger from her mouth, before picking up her drink and taking a sip. One of the Ark hunters, the one who looked more annoyed, was an Irathient and Mei took pleasure in her annoyance. She was about to stand up and walk over to him to look for some work on the side, but the Liberata stood up with his mercenaries and walked away before she could get to her feet. Approaching him on the fly would appear unprofessional; she'd have to bide her time. No matter, she was entertained enough here for the night and she was starting her hunt for Arktech the next day. She had already bought new clothes, her clothes she wore aboard the stratocarrier were not at all professional and she didn't want to look like some thuggish riff-raff. She had also bought herself a sturdy, FRC revolver to replace the EMC sidearm that she had taken from a dead mutant, as well as an old, FRC bolt action sniper rifle with a wooden frame. She was a big fan of FRC firearms, due to the fact that their bullets generally packed a punch and looked hard and sturdy, unlike the modern VBI firearms or the Votan guns that she despised for no other reason than the fact that they are Votan. FRC weapons were perfect for a woman with her attitude.

The bar suddenly went quiet as Mei took a sip from her glass again, peering over the rim to see what the fuss was about. On the steps to the bar was a young Castithan woman. She looked in her early twenties, wearing what appeared to be a slightly dirtied white dress. Her hair was white, matching her Castithan, pale complexion, and it was styled fairly elaborately, though travel had obviously taken its toll. She was horrendously out of place in the dirty surroundings of the Crater, perhaps she got lost on the way to Shondu's Consulate. Mei thought over these possibilities as the young woman walked nervously through the tables and ordered herself a drink. All of the tables were packed apart from Mei's, but she rested her feet on one chair, though this still left one open. The young Castithan walked over and took the seat opposite Mei, not making eye contact, though she was visibly shaking. She had been crying, Mei could tell by her eyes and she looked a little worse for wear. She took another sip from her glass, watching the Castithan from behind her tinted shades as she nervously drunk what looked like a glass of water, shaking so violently that she spilt half the contents down herself. Mei found it all far too funny and she removed her feet from the other chair, leaning in as she looked at the Castithan, now being overtly obvious to make the woman feel more uncomfortable. The Castithan opened her mouth to speak, but then she was interrupted by a pair of human males who walked up to the table. They were obviously drunk, their words were slurred and their breath reeked of alcohol.

"Hey girl, you look like you need a real bad man to match your bad self," one of them said, getting rather close to Mei.

"You an angel? I'll show you the way back to heaven," the other one said, closing on the Castithan woman and putting his arm around her. Mei knew that this man wasn't her boyfriend as his presence seemed to make her even less stable than before, thoroughly amusing Mei. The drunk man trying to chat her up was not, on the other hand.

"Hey, why don't I take you out back and show you som-..." he started, putting his arm around Mei's shoulders which instantly caused something in her mind to snap. She stood up and sent her boot straight into the man's face, causing him to crash heavily onto the floor backwards, spilling the drink that he held in one hand all over the floor. As he reeled in pain, she hooked her foot behind his elbow, stepping on his hand with her other foot before violently jerking her foot behind his elbow upwards, bending it the wrong way and causing him to scream in pain. She then stomped on his arm once with the heel of her boot, shattering his forearm before crouching down to look him in the eyes, taking her revolver out and pointing it into the man's mouth.

"Sssshhhh," she uttered, a finger over her lips in a shushing motion, "you're going to disturb the customers with your childish crying." She was angry, but her demeanour appeared calm and vindictive. The man started to panic, though he could not move one arm at all and couldn't cry out in pain as he had a rather large revolver jammed into his mouth. She had rested her knee on his chest, her body weight almost entirely resting on his rib cage, constricting his airways and causing every breath to require effort. "A real bad man, huh? All I see is an overgrown baby with no manners and a disgusting grasp on his own sexual presence. Touch me again, I'll place a bullet through your god damn skull," she threatened quietly, her voice still with an angry tone to it as well as traces of a slight psychopathic nature. The man whimpered a little more as Mei got back to her feet, stomping on his face fairly hard with the heel of her boot, though not with enough force to crush his skull; however, his nose started to bleed profusely. She grabbed her drink from the table, still holding her revolver in one hand as she downed the rest of its contents, giving the other man who was chatting up the Castithan a mean look from behind her aviators as she walked past. The other patrons had gone back to their drinks, though one Irathient woman stormed up to Mei as she walked out.

"What the hell are you doing?" she asked Mei in a loud, assertive voice. Mei just glanced at her with the same cold look she had given the other man, her revolver still in hand. The Irathient woman was a mercenary like herself, she could tell from the gear, but she seemed far more militaristic. A Pale Wars veteran no doubt.

"Don't **** with me, Irath," she muttered, showing the Irathient that she was still holding her revolver before she just walked away, leaving the Irathient speechless. The Irathient stood there for a moment as Mei walked off, putting her hand on her Votan sidearm, though she just let it go with a shake of the head. She turned to walk back in to see the man trying to get close to the uncomfortable Castithan again. With a sigh, she walked up to him and peeled the man off the woman, throwing him down to the floor near to where his friend had just received a rough beat down, bleeding from his nose and unconscious on the floor.

"Mister, I think you should take your friend there to get some medical attention and go home. She's not interested and you're making a fool of yourself," she paused and motioned at his friend, "you don't want to end up like him, beaten senseless by a woman in front of a whole bar full of people." The man nodded eagerly, scared out of his wits as he picked up his unconscious friend and stumbled out of the bar to a red Hannibal ATV, bumbling about in confusion as to what to do. The Irathient woman looked at the young Castithan as she sat down in Mei's old seat, moving the empty glass to the side. The young Castithan looked up, though her nerves caused her to break eye contact rather quickly.

"Name's Eryn Zaaka, former V.C military," the Irathient introduced herself, extending a hand across the table, though the young Castithan looked at it with an expression of both nerves as well as a touch of arrogance.

"Alazi Shijan," she replied, not shaking the Irathient's hand. Eryn frowned slightly, retracting her hand.

"Will you at least tell me what happened? Shijan's are nobles and diplomats, but you're way off course if you're on your way to Shondu's Consulate," Eryn started sympathetically, she could tell that the young Castithan had been through something major, believing that the best way to get over it would be to talk about it. Alazi stood up and motioned for Eryn to follow as she walked out of the bar. Eryn sighed, getting to her feet and following her outside.

"How do you know my family and my caste?" Alazi asked suspiciously, eyeing Eryn up and down. Her exterior appearance was one of a trained diplomat, but Eryn was older; she had seen and experienced far more than the young Castithan, and she knew that something was troubling her on the inside, however much Alazi tried to hide it.

"As I said, I'm former Votan Collective military. I was in a close protection unit for Zyche Shijan, your father I presume?" Eryn responded almost casually, though the young woman broke into tears instantly. "Hey, what's the matter? Did something happen?" she asked, putting a hand on Alazi's shoulder.

"It was those skrugging miner-cyborg things! They attacked us and killed my parents and siblings. I'm the only one who survived the attack," Alazi suddenly blurted out, pulling away.

"You go out there alone and unarmed and the niners will get you too. Either them or the hellbugs, or raiders, or mutants. It's a dangerous place the Bay Area is," Eryn paused, looking at the girl with a saddened expression.

"I don't care, let them kill me. I've lost my entire family in no longer than five minutes!" Alazi replied, her voice distressed. Eryn sighed and shook her head, walking over to her Nomad pickup truck and unlocking a small lock box, removing a small, Votan Pulser and enough ammo to last for a bit. She walked over to Alazi and extended the sub-machine gun towards her.

"At least take this if you're insistent on roaming alone. I won't try and persuade you otherwise," Eryn said a little apathetically. She had dealt with Shijans before, knowing them to be of a higher caste, their arrogance matched only by their feelings of superiority. She didn't want to see the young woman dead on the roadside, but she also didn't have the patience to go through all this again with an even more hard-headed youth. It was ultimately not her concern, anyhow. For all she knew, this girl could just be another beggar trying to rob her of some scrip. It wouldn't be the first time in the Bay Area. Alazi took the gun after a while, her intelligence overriding her pride in that moment, slinging the sub-machine gun and pocketing the ammunition clips.

"Thank you," she muttered quietly before she hurried away, in tears once again. She could tell that the Irathient woman didn't believe her, but at that moment she just wanted revenge. She hurried back to the ambush site without a second thought. However, she didn't know that Eryn was following from a distance in her Nomad. She wanted to see if the girl was telling the truth, as well as knowing that she stood no chance against a single niner, let alone a group of them. The very fact that she was able to follow the young Castithan in a Nomad without her noticing already proved that she had no military training. She probably didn't even know how to use the sub-machine gun that she had given her.

"Shtako, Eryn... She might kill herself due to ignorance. Clever," she muttered to herself behind the driver's seat, seeing the girl crouch near some wreckage in the distance. She took out her Votan Bolter, watching through the scope.

The girl had told the truth. She instantly identified two of the dead bodies, even from the distance. She noticed a lot of movement on the opposite ridge; whether it was more niners, raiders or hellbugs, it was bad news for the Castithan. She hopped back into her Nomad and drove full speed into the small valley, skidding to a halt next to the girl and forcefully dragging her into the passenger seat, taking off again as shots started to pepper the back of the Nomad, largely going wide.

"What are you doing? I demand that you let me out!" Alazi screamed as Eryn disarmed her of the sub-machine gun with one hand, using the other to steer.

"Shut up, Shijan. Your choice is me or the raiders, and believe me when I say that some of the raider groups are cannibalistic," Eryn shouted as she placed the sub-machine gun on her lap, placing both hands back on the steering wheel. They had gotten away, but there was still the dilemma of what to do with Alazi, who was now quiet at least. She had even put her seat belt on of her own accord. Progress!

"Now, we need to have a little chat about your future, Shijan."
